ExperiencedTeacher with Diverse Professional Background

Wife and Mom to Six Children

South Carolina Native with Conservative Values

Hi, my name is Ellen Abramo, and I’m running for the Fort Mill School Board. As a South Carolina native, I have deep roots in our community and a lifelong commitment to education. My parents were lifelong educators in public schools, instilling in me a passion for teaching and learning from an early age.

I attended the SC Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, which set the foundation for my academic journey. I earned my BA in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education/Learning Disabilities from Furman University.

My professional experience includes teaching 2nd grade and Kindergarten in Anderson 1 District, where I honed my skills in both public and private school settings. This diverse background has given me a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities within our education system.

My husband Don and I have six children, and through raising them, I recognized that my experience as a teacher could be a valuable asset on the school board.

As a candidate, I am committed to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and ensuring our budget is managed with integrity. Effective communication with all stakeholders—parents, teachers, and local businesses—is also a priority for me. By fostering transparent and open dialogue, we can create a collaborative environment that supports student success.

With a strong dedication to educational excellence and fiscal responsibility, I am ready to lead our school district towards a brighter future.

Attract and Keep Top Quality Educators

Competitive Pay, Collaborative Culture

Our district's success hinges on the excellence of our educators. I am committed to creating an environment that attracts and retains exceptional teachers by providing competitive salaries, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work culture. By investing in our teachers, we invest in our students' futures.

Safe and Orderly Learning Environment

A safe and orderly environment is crucial for effective learning. I will advocate for improved discipline policies that foster respect and responsibility while ensuring all students feel secure. Implementing proactive measures and support systems will create a conducive learning atmosphere for every student.

Well-Rounded Curriculum

Our curriculum should be designed to promote rigorous academic standards and critical thinking skills. By emphasizing a well-rounded education that includes STEM, arts, and humanities, we can prepare our students - no matter what their plans after high school - for success in a rapidly changing world.

Removing Red Tape

Streamlining administrative processes is essential for efficiency and effectiveness. I will work to eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles that hinder the progress of our teachers and students. By reducing red tape, we can focus more resources and energy on what truly matters—education.

Communication Between Stakeholders

Effective and Open Communication

Transparent and open communication is key to building trust and collaboration. I am dedicated to engaging with all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and local businesses, to create a shared vision for our district. Regular updates, accessible forums, and active listening will be central to my approach.

Respecting Parental Rights

Respecting parental rights is fundamental to fostering a collaborative and supportive educational environment. As a candidate for the school board, I believe that parents are integral partners in their children's education, and their insights, values, and concerns should be acknowledged and respected.

By actively involving parents in decision-making processes and ensuring transparent communication, I aim to create a sense of trust and cooperation. This approach not only empowers parents but also enhances the overall educational experience for students, as it reinforces the connection between home and school. Upholding parental rights means listening to their voices, addressing their needs, and working together to ensure the best outcomes for their children.

Accountability and Responsibility

Leading By Example

Leadership requires accountability. I will take full responsibility for the decisions made by the school board and work collaboratively to find solutions rather than assigning blame. It is vital to lead by example, demonstrating integrity and responsibility in all actions.

By living within our means and setting a positive example for our students, we can demonstrate the values of responsibility and fiscal discipline. This not only helps maintain trust with our community but also teaches our students the importance of financial stewardship and integrity. As your school board representative, I will prioritize these principles to ensure our district operates efficiently and responsibly.

Financial Responsibility

I am committed to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and ensuring our budget is managed with integrity and prudence. Over the past three years, our community has faced three tax increases, which have placed a burden on families and businesses. I believe it is our responsibility to manage the district’s finances more effectively, avoiding unnecessary tax hikes and instead focusing on making the most of the resources we already have.

A Sustainable Financial Future

One of my top priorities will be to cut extraneous spending rather than continually taking out bonds to cover expenses. Bonds can be a useful tool, but relying on them too frequently can lead to long-term financial instability. By scrutinizing our expenditures and eliminating waste, we can allocate funds more efficiently and ensure that taxpayer money is being used directly for the benefit of our students and teachers. This approach will help us build a sustainable financial foundation for our district.
